Illustrations

I love drawing, so I enjoy incorporating my passion for that into my design work when I get the opportunity. Here is a collection of illustrations I have created over the years.

Web Illustration
Mascot Design

Groupsense

I enjoyed creating these illustrations for GroupSense as a way of humanizing the data security problems they’re solving.

Hero Concepts

These were the three initial hero concepts we presented. Our goal was to convey the theme of cyber reconnaissance. The text we were working with was:

“Meet your cyber intelligence team.”

To show that there's a full team working to solve cyber security problems, I included multiple people in the illustrations.

“Human driven cyber reconnaissance…”

To show that it’s human driven, I chose human subjects. At this point we had established that we would be using an abstract 1-0 pattern to represent digital data, so I included this as a motif throughout the illustrations. The three options varied in how they approached the reconnaissance aspect, which you can learn more about below.

Concept A

Reconnaissance in this illustration is demonstrated through the metaphor of soldiers out in the field, scouting out the environment, looking for threats. The soldier metaphor ties in the altruistic and discreet aspects of GroupSense's brand personality. We decided not to dress the people in soldier uniforms, so as not to take the metaphor too far to the point where it would come off as cheesy, and instead relied on the environment to tell this story.

The team in this illustration is searching through the dark web for threats. The dark, rocky terrain and murky water are a metaphor for the deep, dark web as well as for the rigorousness of the work that GroupSense does. The flashlights represent Tracelight (one of their branded services) and the process of sifting through a multitude of complex data to detect threats.

It conveys that although there is a deep, dark web out there, if you hire GroupSense, you'll have a diligent, confident, competent team behind you to help keep you and your data safe.

Concept B

Reconnaissance in this illustration is demonstrated through the metaphor of the watchtower. It shows how the team at Groupsense is diligently on the lookout, getting ahead of threats before they cause harm. The cyber data pattern would be incorporated into the texture of the mountains to make it clear that they are a symbol of the data they sift through. Similar to the terrain in Concept A, the mountains—harsh, rocky, massive forms—are a metaphor for the gravity and difficulty of the work they do. The deep perspective of this illustration also drives home the vastness of the ground they cover when searching for threats.

Concept C (Selected Concept)

The link to reconnaissance in this option is represented by gaze of the individuals, (all of which center on the threat). Their active body language shows that they're focused and poised to take action.

Pharma Case Study

For this case study, I blended the 1-0 data pattern concept with pills and capsules to show that GroupSense was looking out for mentions of trial drugs that weren't officially available.

Selected Concept In Context

Tech Case Study

This illustration shows a worker sneakily taking a picture of the company's hardware with his phone as it is going down the assembly line. In the background, a stealthy GroupSense team member detects the threat unnoticed. The light coming out of the woman’s glasses is a metaphor for FireEye.

ICS Life Science Landing Page

I created these illustrations for a landing page that promotes our studio’s life science work. My goal was to create illustrations that felt clean but not cold, using fluid shapes, a limited palette, and subtle textures.

Strategic Planning

The chemist is concocting a website using the research she’s done (brand attributes, personas, a sitemap, and competitive analysis) to inform which ingredients (typefaces, colors, visual assets) she selects. The accompanying copy is:

We start by taking a deep dive into your company’s history, goals, and objectives. From there, our years of experience with life science brands guides a creation of custom strategy. Our refined creative approach sharpens the focus of your brand and enables messaging that resonates with your unique audience.

Visually Engaging Design

This illustration uses a supernova as a metaphor for designs that captivate and draw people in. The accompanying copy is:

Your company is creating novel solutions to some of the worlds biggest challenges; your brand demands a dynamic, engaging visual presentation to align with your vision. Along with your messaging, your visual brand is responsible for communicating the value of your work to your audience and creating an emotional connection that translates into a deeper connection with your organization.

Long-term Partnerships

The strong bond between a proton and neutron was a playful way of symbolizing the ongoing relationships we maintain with our clients.

From start-up to acquisition, we provide our highest value when we establish long-term partnerships with our clients that last throughout all stages of their growth. Whether you’re early in your development pipeline or transitioning into clinical trials, we'll ensure your brand reflects where you are in your journey.

ICS Restaurant Landing Page

The designer who is explaining the website to the client was meant to look like Adam, the Creative Director at Image Conscious Studios.

Award-winning design

These awards were inspired by the trophies we received for the W3 and Davey Awards.

Thayer Tiger Mascot

Thayer Academy, a private middle school and high school in Braintree, MA approached us to redesign their mascot. They were aiming for a tiger that looked fierce, but not furious — with a collected, yet intimidating gaze.
